Jim founded the James W. Nolan Company in 1962 to specialize in the design/application/sales of pumps and related equipment for Water Supply Systems for Fire Protection and Domestic Water Supply. The James W. Nolan Company worked on over 100 hi-rise projects including the most outstanding project, the Sears Tower, which was the first fully sprinkled hi-rise office building in the City of Chicago.

In addition to his work in the Fire Pump Application Field, Jim became a National figure in the Fire Protection Industry by his service to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE). Active in several areas of the NFPA, he was Chairman of NFPA Pamphlet No. 14 - Standpipe and Hose Systems and a member since 1965 of NFPA Advisory Council. As a member of the Chicago Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection since 1955 he served in various capacities, becoming President of the Chapter in 1963 and going on to become the 12th National President in 1973. His hard work and dedication was honored with several awards including the Joseph B. Finnegan Award in 1975 for the most outstanding contribution to the Fire Protection Engineering by a member of the Chicago Chapter. IN 1978 he was made member of the Salamander Honorary Fire Protection Engineering Society. His national achievements did not stop there. He went on to receive the Lew Freeman Service Award in 1980, the NFPA Committee Service Award in 1990 and the National Herald E. Nelson Service Award in 1994.

Locally, Jim worked as a member of Mayor Richard Daley's Blue Ribbon Jury to investigate the cause of the McCormick Place Fire in 1967. His contribution resulted in his Commission member status to the Mayor's City of Chicago Building Code Amendments Group 1968 to 1994.

Now retired, Jim resides in Park Ridge, IL with his wife Marty. Aquarius Fluid Products, Inc. is proud to have on board such a dedicated, knowledgeable and highly recognized individual in the fire protection field.
